In 2017, when Justin and I rented out the house, loaded all of our remaining possessions into an RV and traveled to Texas to buy a boat, we had no idea what the next few years would hold. We made a plan to take 2 years getting the boat and ourselves ready. For reasons, we didn’t end up leaving Texas until January of 2023 which meant that we were able to save up more for our travels and it also gave us more time to know Nymeria inside and out. Our original idea was to cruise/sail for at least 3 years before making a decision as to whether we would continue sailing or return back to Colorado. We’re now in the middle of our 3rd year of cruising without a home port and we’ve decided, after much deliberation, that it will be our last full-time season for the foreseeable future.

Though we’ve loved this whole experience, some moments more or less than others, we’ve decided that we’re going to move back into the house in Durango with frequent visits and, hopefully, summers on the Chesapeake Bay. We’ve found that we love exploring the people, history and culture of new and revisited locations along the coast and The Bahamas. But we have also admitted that we have a constant underlying anxiety due to the unpredictability of weather and unexpected mishaps or breakdowns that have and can occur at any time. We’ve also struggled with the logistics of visiting with family and friends who do not live on the coast.

Our current plan is to try and split our time between the house, work, and the boat as much as we can for the next couple of years. We’ve been so focused on the boat that we have neglected our house in Colorado and we are looking forward to updating and transforming it back into our serene abode. We’re going to give ourselves some time to find a rhythm as we attempt to move between our two very different worlds. Though we will have a hard time leaving Nymeria this summer, we’re excited about the next chapter and what adventures it will bring.
“There are no endings, and never will be endings, to the turning of the Wheel of Time. But it was an ending.”

Thank you both for sharing your voyages! It’s been a treat to watch and I look forward to your next adventure. Will reach out the summer of 2026 when I finish the Colorado Trail. Planning on spending a few days in Durango then.
